- What is a KN95 Industrial Protective Mask?

The KN95 industrial protective mask is a particulate respirator designed and manufactured in accordance with China’s mandatory national standard GB 2626-2019 – Respiratory Protection – Non-powered air-purifying particle respirator. Its primary function is to filter non-oil-based particles (including dust, smoke, mist, and microorganisms) from the air. It is suitable for industrial work environments where particulate contamination is present, providing reliable respiratory protection for workers.
“KN” stands for protection against non-oil-based particles, and “95” means the filter efficiency reaches 95% or higher. KN95 industrial protective masks generally adopt a multi-layer composite filter structure, with the core layer made of melt-blown fabric treated with electrostatic charging. This enables efficient capture of particles as small as 0.3 microns.
II. Core Product Standards
KN95 industrial protective masks must comply with GB 2626-2019—Respiratory Protection—Non-powered air-purifying particle respirator. This is a mandatory national standard proposed and managed by the Ministry of Emergency Management of China. The standard specifies the following key performance requirements:
Test Item | KN95 Requirement |
Filter efficiency (salt aerosol) | ≥95% |
Inhalation resistance | ≤350 Pa |
Exhalation resistance | ≤300 Pa |
Downward field of vision | ≥60° |
Head strap breaking strength | ≥20 N |
Exhalation valve leakage (valved type) | Conform to standard |
Dead space CO₂ concentration | ≤1% |
In addition, based on the filter media, GB 2626-2019 classifies particulate protection into three levels: KN90 (filter efficiency ≥90%), KN95 (filter efficiency ≥95%), and KN100 (filter efficiency ≥99.97%). The standard also covers requirements for appearance, fit, labeling, packaging, and more.
III. Main Application Scenarios
KN95 industrial protective masks are widely used in industrial workplaces where particulate contamination exists, including:
Industry | Specific Scenarios |
Mining | Coal dust, silica dust and other dust operations |
Construction | Cement mixing, demolition, cutting and other dust-generating activities |
Metalworking | Grinding, polishing, welding fume |
Chemical production | Dust, smoke and some hazardous particulate protection |
Wood processing | Wood chips, sawdust |
Pharmaceutical & food | Dust control in clean room production lines |
KN95 masks are suitable for medium-concentration dust environments (e.g., construction cement mixing, electronics factory grinding). They effectively block dust particles and help prevent respiratory injury.
IV. Selection Guidelines for Buyers
-Applicable standard: Ensure the packaging states compliance with GB 2626-2019.
-Filter efficiency: KN95 level requires ≥95% efficiency—suitable for medium-concentration dust environments.
-Wearing comfort: Pay attention to breathing resistance, nose clip adjustability, and ear loop/head strap strength.
-Certification marks: Look for authoritative marks such as LA (Labour Safety) certification.
-Shelf life and storage: Check the production date and expiration date, and store under specified conditions.
V. Global KN95/N95 Mask Market Maintains Steady Growth
